Grade 4+: A short Nepal rafting trip on two great Himalayan rivers.
This suggested itinerary can readily be extended to include sightseeing and other activities too. This rafting holiday is a journey of two rivers with mini-expeditions on both the Trisuli and the wilderness experience of the Kali Gandaki. The Trisuli is Nepal's most popular rafting river due to the relatively short travel time to put-in and take-out points from Kathmandu, reachable via the main highway. Big bouncy waves, hefty holes, and tricky chutes all go towards making an exhilarating ride to remember with a combination of Grade II+ and III+ rapids, with some IV’s in the monsoon season. Rapids such as ‘Snell’s Nose’, ‘Teen Devi’, ‘Ladies Delight’, ‘Upset’ and the aptly named ‘Surprise’ rapid. One night is spent at the permanent Big Fig Camp on the banks of the Trisuli before more paddling and then onto Pokhara, Nepal's premier lakeside resort. You then take to the waters of the Kali Gandaki River, which originates high up on the Tibetan Plateau and forms the world's deepest gorge. A truly fantastic wilderness rafting experience. The rapids run thick and fast from day one, just below the put-in point at Beni. For most of the three-day expedition, there is little rest. Mostly Grade III rapids, but sometimes really exhilarating Grade IV and Grade IV+, the Kali Gandaki carries you cavorting on through steep-walled gorges, under cascading waterfalls, and, until the last morning, a grand finale of spectacular, photogenic, big-time whitewater. And far more than just the river, the rewards include stunning upstream views of the Annapurna range, peaceful beach camps on the river bank, and the remote villages of at least five of Nepal’s main ethnic groups. On this section, you'll camp 'wild' at suitable riverside locations. Two-person tents are provided, and your team will prepare some tasty meals for you in the evenings. Breakfast 'al fresco' on the balmy river banks too! Sleeping bags (3-season) will be required for the nights spent camping. We can arrange sleeping bag rentals if required.

After breakfast, you'll travel by private vehicle to the Trisuli River Valley and to Baireni, the put-in point for the rafting. You'll be given a safety briefing, wetsuits, safety helmets, and life jackets. Your main baggage will travel ahead by vehicle to tonight's camp, so anything you want with you for today will go into dry bags on the raft. Once you're ready, it's onto the river, and after around an hour of paddling and a bit of whitewater (Grade 3), you'll stop at a scenic riverbank location for a picnic lunch. Back onto the water, there's some more whitewater before the river becomes a calmer paddle and leads to the permanent riverside camp known as the Big Fig. Enjoy a BBQ dinner al fresco on the stony beach by a camp fire.

Take breakfast at camp; no 'crack of dawn' start either, and take to the river mid-morning to continue your journey down stream. You'll probably get a bit wet today as there are some grade 4 rapids to provide thrills along the way. After 3–4 hours of rafting, you'll reach Kuringhat, where the Trisuli rafting ends. But first a leisurely picnic lunch, and then it's back to the road, and after around 3 hours of driving, you reach Pokhara, Nepal's premier resort. Your hotel is in the 'Lake Side' area.
