In keeping with the unhurried, relaxed nature of this adventure, no 'crack of dawn' start is needed. A short, private vehicle transfer will take you away from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu and to mediaeval, much more peaceful Bhaktapur. For many, Bhaktapur is what they hoped Kathmandu would be like. Certainly, in the old part of this wondrous city, there are no vehicles, for starters! A Bhaktapur guide will take you on a slow-paced walking tour. For sure, you'll visit all the main tourist attractions here, but your guide will also take you away from the daytrippers to explore the hidden back streets of Bhaktapur. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at your guest house with views right across pagoda temples and distant views of the Himalaya. By late afternoon, the day trippers have departed, and this is when the real Bhaktapur reveals itself. This is the best time to simply stroll around Bhaktapur and soak up it's unique atmosphere.

It really is worth waking up early and taking an early morning stroll around Bhaktapur as the locals slowly go about their daily business. It's a good way of readjusting yourself to a slower pace of life, too. Mid-morning, a private vehicle will pick you up for the scenic journey to Nuwakot. Certainly, when you reach the top of the 2000-metre road pass and see the mountains stretched out before you and can see Nuwakot down below and perched on the hill sides, you'll now realise that urban Nepal has gone and you're into the Himalayan foothills. Reaching the Trisuli River, a right turn up a single-track road climbs up through fragrant pine forests to emerge at dreamy Nuwakot and the delightful former Newari Manor House, where you spend the next two nights. Enjoy the afternoon sun in the pretty gardens of the Famous Farm, perhaps say hello to the animals wandering around, and just relax and enjoy the views down to the Trisuli Valley below.

First, you'll walk up to a great view point high above the stretched-out village, passing tiny, simple homesteads along the way. Heading downhill, you'll perhaps meet the kids from the school for deaf and mute children and walk down to the bazaar area before walking back up to the Famous Farm for a tranquil lunch. The afternoon is yours to relax, or perhaps take a stroll to meet the locals. Your guide will come with you if you want, or if you'd prefer to discover the rural delights by yourselves here in Nuwakot, that's OK too.

Again, no need to hurry. After breakfast, you'll travel by private vehicle down to the Trisuli River Valley and to Baireni, the put-in point for the rafting. You'll be given a safety briefing, wetsuits, safety helmets, and life jackets. Your main baggage will travel ahead by vehicle to tonight's camp, so anything you want with you for today will go into dry bags on the raft. Once you're ready, it's onto the river, and after around an hour of paddling and a bit of whitewater (Grade 3), you'll stop at a scenic riverbank location for a picnic lunch. Back onto the water, there's some more whitewater before the river becomes a calmer paddle and leads to the permanent riverside camp known as Big Fig. Enjoy a BBQ dinner al fresco on the stony beach and a campfire.

Take breakfast at camp, and again, no 'crack of dawn; either take to the river mid-morning to continue your journey down stream. You'll probably get a bit wet today as there are some grade 3–4 rapids (depending on the river level) to provide thrills along the way. After 3–4 hours of rafting, you'll reach Kuringhat, where the rafting ends. But first a leisurely picnic lunch, and then it's back to the road, and after around 3 hours of driving, you reach Pokhara, Nepal's premier resort. With so many choices for eating out in Pokhara, we thought you'd prefer to eat out tonight at a place of your choosing.

It's virtually all downhill as your final day of walking completes this mini-horseshoe circuit of the Annapurna foothills. Waking to 'bed tea' again, it's a good idea to rise early and (hopefully) enjoy a magnificent panoramic Himalayan sunrise as the peaks of the Annapurna range turn from pink to gold. After breakfast the trail descends towards the lakes of Begnas and Rupal and the walking becomes more level. There's no hurry at all today and you'll stop for a relaxing lunch along the way. At the end of the trail a private vehicle will whisk you back to Pokhara. Walking time approx 4hrs, approx 700m descent.
