Designed for active families with active younger children in mind.
Enjoy Nepal custom-made. This family adventure not only affords the opportunity for many cultural encounters, but it's also lots of fun for parents and kids alike. A personal Nepal journey and an educational Nepal tour too. Some Nepal treks for kids, like the mini-trek in this programme, are very straightforward. After exploring colourful Kathmandu, you visit mediaeval Bhaktapur where the kids can try out traditional pottery making, before heading for the rural idyll of Nuwakot village in the Himalayan foothills. Next, you take to the waters for a fun day of rafting and a riverside permanent camp. Heading to scenic lakeside Pokhara you'll then enjoy a relatively easy, low-altitude mini-trek, complete with a full trek camp service including porters and a cook. Wake to breathtaking, panoramic views of the Himalayas at camp, enjoy an al fresco breakfast, and then walk down through traditional villages. Your Nepal adventure is complete with a Chitwan safari in search of tigers and other wildlife. Sleeping bags (4 seasons) are required for the one night on the trek. We can arrange sleeping bag rentals for you.

Arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you'll be met and receive a private transfer for the short distance into Kathmandu. A specialist Kathmandu City Guide will take you (on foot and also with a private vehicle to get around the city) and your family on a tour of the main sights of Kathmandu. Kids particularly enjoy a visit to the hilltop Swayambunath Stupa. It's often referred to as the Monkey Temple. Monkeys are considered sacred (by the monkey god Hanuman), and so there are quite a lot of monkeys running around the Stupa here. In the late afternoon, you'll be driven the short distance to the medieval city of Bhakatpur. You'll probably be glad to leave the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, and as the 'old part' of Bhaktapur is pedestrianised, the more relaxed atmosphere of this fascinating mediaeval city is a relief. Your welcoming hotel is idyllically located in an ancient square.
Accommodation: Hotel Heritage Malla - Bhaktapur

In the morning, a Bhaktapur City Guide will take you all on a walking tour of 'hidden' Bhaktapur. Away from the main sites, you'll encounter traditional pottery making (for which Bhakatpur is renowned). The locals make it look easy, of course. Still, your kids (and you too, if you wish) can try their hands at pottery making too. After lunch, you'll then travel by private vehicle towards the Langtang Himal, the rural foothills of the Himalaya, and the beautiful village of Nuwakot. It's around 2–3 hours of driving on a mountain road, and when you reach the 2000-metre pass, you'll be greeted with panoramic Himalayan views. You'll be staying at the Famous Farm. A former Newari Manor House, tastefully converted to provide atmospheric accommodation. It has its own large, private hillside gardens as well as a vegetable growing area and is a firm favourite with children, particularly as there are ducks, chickens, turkeys, and goats running around the gardens. Mum and Dad may enjoy the views of the Trisuli River Valley and the very relaxed atmosphere.

A Snow Cat Travel Guide will now accompany you until you head for Chitwan. By now you'll have been able to adjust to Nuwakot time, i.e., slow, relaxed, and peaceful. In the morning, your guide will take you on a little walking tour of the Nuwakot village environs. Your kids may appreciate visiting the school here (the local kids will be happy to see you all), as well as the small school for deaf and mute children (the only one of its kind in Nepal). Outside the main school is a large, flat area that the kids use to play. Your own children will be made very welcome to join in and play too if there's a kickabout going on, a spot of skipping, or whatever the local children are up to. English is taught at school in Nepal from an early age, and the local kids will be very, very pleased to try out what they have learned. Of course, interactive cultural encounters cannot be manufactured, but your guide will be very happy to help your family engage with the friendly people of Nuwakot. The afternoon is free for you to explore further or get involved with whatever might be going on that your kids might like. Enjoy another tasty Nepali dinner at the Famous Farm, and as they have an open kitchen here, by all means pop in and see how they prepare typical Nepali cuisine.

It's time to get wet—well, maybe just a little! You'll be driven down to the Trisuli Valley floor and the river banks. Here, you'll be taking to the waters of the Trisuli River in a raft. You'll all be given wetsuits, life jackets, safety helmets, and a safety briefing from the rafting guide. Naturally, you all get paddles too, as you're part of the rafting team. The rafting itself is quite straightforward, with a lot of slow water paddling mixed in with some whitewater fun (grades 2-3). With a riverside picnic stop along the way, around 3 hours of total paddling bring you to a permanent riverbank camp. Your main baggage will be taken to your overnight halt by private vehicle, and anything you want with you for the rafting can be stored in dry bags on board. Have a game of beach volleyball in the afternoon, explore the locality, rest, and perhaps enjoy a camp fire, a BBQ dinner, and a balmy sub-tropical climate.

A very short private transfer to Begnas and to begin a little mini-trek for you to enjoy extensive, panoramic views of the entire Annapurna range that naturally requires effort, but by Himalayan standards, is relatively easy and remains at a low altitude. But no one provides a camping experience better than the Nepalese, and at tonight's hill top location, children seem to simply love the experience. The walking pace is unhurried as you pass through terraced rice fields and scattered homesteads before ascending up through forests on a trail that is often stone-stepped to reach Chisapani at approx. 1300m. At a steady pace, the walking would take around 4 hours in total. But you've got all day, so there are plenty of opportunities to stop for a rest, take refreshments at one of the villages you pass, admire the views, and enjoy the experience. You'll have porters to carry your main baggage (so you just walk with your usual day pack) and all the camping equipment, including tents, mattresses, tables, and chairs for dining. You'll have a cook too who'll prepare you a tasty supper tonight, and he'll be very happy if you take an interest in his cooking preparations. Kids seem to just love the friendly, cheerful porters and camp crew and having fun with them at camp. Should your little ones get tired (although we've yet to hear this happen), the porters will usually be happy to give them a shoulders ride. Altitude gain approx. 650m.

It's usually early in the morning that the mountain views of the Himalayas are at their best. Waking to the sound of your camp crew going about breakfast preparations, you'll perhaps find that being served early morning 'bed tea' is something you could just get used to! From your hilltop location, you'll probably want to be out of your tent to see the views that, when crystal clear, extend from Dhaulagiri in the west to Manaslu in the east, with the Annapurna's in between. That's three 8000+ m peaks alone from your elevated vantage point of a mere 1300m. Not bad, eh? At this low elevation, it's usually possible to enjoy an al fresco breakfast. Most of today's walking is actually downhill and takes around 3.5 hours, so why hurry? Heading down the hillside, you can again stop at villages and see how the locals live. Descent: approx. 650m. Reaching the end of the trail, it's a short drive by private vehicle to Pokhara.
