Unknown Kathmandu Valley Trek

Villages of the Kathmandu Valley

Day 1 - Arrive Kathmandu

Arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you'll be met and receive a private transfer for the short distance into central Kathmandu and to the "KGH" Hotel in the heart of the Thamel district. You'll be given a briefing on your forthcoming adventure, and in the evening can take dinner at your leisure in one of the many choices of cafes & restaurants in Kathmandu, although the open air courtyard cafe of the KGH Hotel is as good as anywhere,

Accommodation: KGH Hotel  -  Kathmandu

Included Meals: None

Day 2 - Visit Panauti & Trek to Balthali

A private transfer takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, firstly to visit the ancient Newari town of Panauti with its ornate temples and the feeling that you've stepped back in time. After exploring this rather special place it's a short drive to Khopasi Bazaar where your short hike today begins. Initially following a dirt road you walk amongst a rural landscape of paddy fields, orchards and woodlands passing multi-ethnic settlements and farmsteads along the way. A gradual descent to the Rosi Khola River and across a wooden bridge as you follow a dirt road that ascends gradually through rural Nepal to the forested retreat of the Balthali Resort from where you can relax and enjoy views of verdant villages and farms and the Himalaya on the far horizon. Walking time approx. 2hrs, with around 350m ascent and descent.

Accommodation: Balthali Village Resort, Balthali

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 - Trek to Namobuddha

No need to rush, this is designed to be a slow paced, relaxed on foot exploration. The walking day is initially descent through pretty, terraced fields, becoming steeper as the trail heads down to the Rosi Khola. A trail over the bridge on the other side now becomes a steep, but not sustained walk up through open pasture land and to reach a dirt road. From here you'll follow the road, passing villages along the way and then into dense forest before emerging at the revered, Buddhist pilgrimage site of Namobuddha. Here you can explore the Stupa and local area in a leisurely, unhurried way. Walking time approx. 3-4 hours with around 300m descent and 400m ascent.

Accommodation: Namobuddha Resort -   Namobuddha

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 - Trek to Dhulikel

Leaving the serenity of Namobuddha, there are splendid views of the Himalaya on the far horizon as you walk down a trail through rich farmlands growing crops such as maize, wheat and millet. It's then a short climb uphill passing tiny homesteads to the top of a forested hill. You now follow a stone-stepped trail through dense woodlands of chestnut and pine trees to encounter a huge and very impressive Buddha idol. The descent to Dhulikel continues down more stone steps. Dhulikel is an ancient Newari town, nowadays perhaps better known for its sweeping panoramic views of the Himalaya. Walking time approx. 5 hrs with around 250m ascent and 450m descent.

Accommodation: Dhulikel Lodge Resort   -   Dhulikel

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 - Bhaktapur

After breakfast a private vehicle will take you to wondrous, almost medieval, small city of Bhaktapur, the "city of devotees". A Bhaktapur Guide will take you on a morning tour of Bhaktapur and the afternoon and evening is free for you to explore further and enjoy this most atmsopheric place.

Accommodation: Bhadgaon Guest House -   Bhaktapur

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 - Depart Nepal

A private transfer will take you to the airport for your return international flight.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Of course there's no reason to depart today, your Nepal holiday can be readily tailor-made.
