Unknown Inner Dolpo Trek

Dolpo & The Crystal Mountain

Shey Gompa - Phoksundo Lake - The 'Crystal Mountain' - Traditional costumes of Dho Tarap - Realm of the snow leopard

Challenging Himalayan treks don't come much better than this.True Himalayan afficionados will already be enthralled by the mere mention of Dolpo and most likely inspired by reading Peter Matthiessons iconic novel 'The Snow Leopard' as well as having been moved by 'Thinle's' trials and tribulations in Eric Valli's truly magical film 'Himalaya'. Indeed to the informed, Dolpo has near mythical status. That remains so as this is a truly remote, isolated Himalayan land that can only be reached on foot and an arduous, lengthy trek at that. One of the longer treks in Nepal. With several 5000m passes to cross & with snow conditions likely, there are many long, challenging days walking at high altitudes. Indeed this trek is often called 'The Snow Leopard Trek'. Thus this rarely visited magical land where the Bon Po religion thrives beneath the 'Crystal Mountain' will likely remain the domain of the determined, experienced (and very fit) trekker for many years to come. This circuit trek of Dolpo visits the bejewelled Phoksundo Lake before tackling the 'Demons Trail' and then over the Kang La to the restricted area of Inner Dolpo for which special permits are required. Leaving Inner Dolpo by crossing the Shey La and down through the Tarap Chu the traditional dress of the people of Dho Tarap is encountered on this journey through the realm of the snow leopard. Don't forget our trekking holidays are tailor-made and you may wish to consider additional acclimatisation days, rest & contingency days added.  The itinerary is merely a suggested itinerary and is not entirely  'set in stone'. Sleeping bags (4 season) will be required for nights spent camping. We can arrange sleeping bag  rental if required.
