Unknown Everest Highlights-Short Everest Trek

Everest Highlights

We have shown the itinerary on the basis of a complete holiday purely for illustrative purposes. Naturally as tailor-made Nepal holiday specialists we would be happy to discuss additional options, whether it be other activities, more/less sightseeing, alternative/upgraded accommodation etc dependent upon your interests, preferences and time available. We even tailor-make a suggested 'what to pack' list for you based upon your ultimately chosen Nepal tailor-made holiday too.

Day 1 - Arrive Kathmandu

Arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you'll be met and receive a private transfer for the short distance into central Kathmandu and to the "KGH" Hotel in the heart of the Thamel district. You'll be given a briefing on your forthcoming adventure, and in the evening can take dinner at your leisure in one of the many choices of cafes & restaurants in Kathmandu, although the open air courtyard cafe of the KGH Hotel is as good as anywhere,

Accommodation: KGH Hotel, Kathmandu

Day 2 - Fly to Lukla & trek to Phakding

A private transfer to the airport for the 40min spectacular flight to the airstrip at Lukla. Here you'll meet your porter team and then your first day of trekking is actually downhill and relatively short too as you descend a trail to the bottom of the river valley below. It's around 2-3hrs of walking to the village of Phakding (2610m) and your overnight halt staying in a typical trekking lodge.

Accommodation: Trekking Lodge, Phakding

Meals: BLD

Day 3 - Trek to Namche Bazaar

Todays walk begins in a straightforward manner as you follow the trail alongside the river and through pine forests to Jorsale. You'll cross the river a couple of times by suspension and plank bridge and in around 2hrs you'll hopefully get your first glimpse of Everest's summit poking over the Nuptse ridge in the far distance. It's then a stiff climb of 2-3 hrs as the Everest Base Camp trail winds its way up and up to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar. Walking time approx. 5-6hrs to an altitude of 3440m. Altitude gain 800m.

Accommodation: Trekking Lodge, Namche Bazaar

Meals: BLD

Day 4 - Acclimatisation and rest day in Namche Bazaar

Now at 3440m you really have to have an acclimatisation day today and let your body take it easy. Namche is a fascinating place to explore with plenty of souvenir shops, cafes and bars, as well as a particularly good German bakery too! If you like you can take an acclimatisation walk up to the Museum of Sherpa Culture. Near to the museum is an excellent Everest viewpoint and magnificent views of the iconic peak of Ama Dablam.

Accommodation: Trekking Lodge, Namche Bazaar

Meals: BLD

Day 5 - Trek to Kangjuma

On todays trek to the village of Kangjuma you'll take a detour from the main Everest Base Camp route and head into the Nangpo Tsangpo Valley and to Thame. From here it's a continuous climb up to Syangboche and then over a low col to the village of Khunde, where the Hillary Hospital and Hillary School are. Passing through Khumjung you then finish the day with a short descent to Kanjuma (3600m). Walking time approx 6hrs.

Accommodation: Trekking Lodge, Kangjuma

Meals: BLD

Day 6 - Walk to Thyangboche

For much of todays walk there are breathtaking views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Everest's summit. Across the valley and upwards you'll also see where you're heading, the village of Thyangboche, which astrides a forested ridge. It's downhill to start though & to cross the Imja Khola via a footbridge. The trail then climbs steadily up to Thyangboche, which lies at an altitude of 3860m. From here as well as the impressive peak of Kantaiga looming above, there are classic views of the Everest/Lhotse Massif. The village is home to the famous Thyangboche Monastery, where many an Everest climbing expedition have visited to gain blessings for their summit attempts. Walking time approx. 6hrs.

Accommodation: Trekking Lodge, Thyangboche

Meals: BLD

Day 7 - Explore Thyangboche

After all your exertions to reach here, it would be completely potty to simply turn around today and begin the return to Lukla. Surely you'll want to soak up every moment of the Everest and Himalayan views? Your guide will also take you to visit the reconstructed monastery and the nearby 'visitor centre'. As you're now close to 4,000m a short walk exploring the area will feel much harder.

Accommodation: Trekking Lodge, Thyangboche

Meals: BLD

Day 8 - Trek to Monjo

The return trek to Lukla only takes two days, and today your trek begins by dropping down to tiny Phunki where you'll see some water powered prayer wheels. The trail then climbs up to Namche Bazaar, then it's down, down, down to the Dudh Kosi and further down to Monjo (2835m). Walking time approx 6hrs.

Accommodation: Trekking Lodge, Monjo

Meals: BLD

Day 9 - Walk back up to Lukla

Remember the start of your trek at Lukla was a welcoming downhill? Today you will be walking back up the same trail. However, it is a down to begin with and a rather steep descent to Chaurikharka. Here begins the final climb, and no doubt reaching Lukla you'll be glad it's all over. Walking time approx. 5hrs.

Accommodation: Trekking Lodge, Lukla

Meals: BLD

Day 10 - Fly to Kathmandu

An adrenalin filled take off from Lukla for the short flight out of the Himalaya and back to Kathmandu. A private transfer will take you from the airport back to the KGH Hotel.

Accommodation: KGH Hotel, Kathmandu

Meals: BL

Day 11 - Kathmandu

Today is necessary as a contingency day should there have been any delays to the return flight from Lukla.

If not, then you're in Kathmandu with a free day! We can pre-arrange a guided tour of the principle sights of Kathmandu and to medieval Bhaktapur, or other ways to enjoy the Kathmandu Valley.

Accommodation: KGH Hotel, Kathmandu

Meals: B

Day 12 - Depart Nepal

A private transfer will take you to the airport for your return international flight.

Of course there's no reason to depart today, your Nepal holiday can be readily tailor-made.
