Mountain Biking in Bhutan is rather different to neighbouring Himalayan countries such as Nepal & India where countless off road possibilities are available and there are more roads meaning vehicle support is much more feasible.
Bhutan doesn't have so many roads, indeed up until the 1960's it didn't have any roads at all and the only way to get around was on foot or on horse back. Even now Bhutan's few highways are relatively traffic free. A mostly single carriageway road traverses the country and with many challenging switchbacks leading to high passes and blistering free wheeling descents a Bhutan mountain bike holiday is by default more of cultural tour by bicycle, but a fairly tough cycling tour of Bhutan all the same.
Indeed a bicycle traverse of Bhutan must surely rank as one of the greatest two wheeled adventures in the world. Even though this tour may be on a mostly hard core surface, it's a journey far better suited to the capabilities and durability of a mountain bike.
This fully supported Bhutan cycling holiday amasses some staggering ascents and descents.
