As Pokhara just seems to grow & grow, Begnas Lake is seemingly taking over Pokhara's mantle as the relaxed lake side place to visit, but still with those magnificent mountain views.
Begnas Lake and the 'adjacent' Rupakot Lake are just 8 miles from Pokhara, so they also enjoy the same balmy, sub-tropical climate, but here amongst the forested hill sides dotted with small villages, everything is calmer and moves at a much slower place. Ideal if you have 'chilling out' in mind.
You can base yourself at Begnas Lake for a few days and enjoy a number of interesting, low-level day walks, take a boat out onto the lake or even take a mini-circuit trek and from Begnas Lake head up to the ridge line of the 'middle' hills above and follow the ridge line for a day or two and camp each night (guide, full porterage and camp service provided) and enjoy uninterrupted views of the Annapurnas as you go before dropping back down to Begnas Lake. As far as Himalayan trekking goes, it's about as easy as it gets if you're wanting a Himalayan panorama. Needless to say there won't be anything like the number of trekkers heading into the Annapurnas themselves, nor is there the matter of altitude to be concerned about, and there are many interesting villages to see and locals to meet along the way.
From our recommended Begnas Lake accommodation there are both relaxing and stimulating activities you can also enjoy.
Please don't think that we're seeking to suggest that you shouldn't visit Pokhara. On the contrary, with a little effort (and our help) you can still experience the 'Pokhara that was', but here at Begnas Lake, let's just say that the 'possibilities' are a little more genuine and relaxing. Amongst several suggested itineraries, you can enjoy the delights of Begnas Lake on our Nepal Family Adventure.
