The sacred peak of Kailas is the 'spiritual centre of the universe' for those who follow the Buddhist faith. This particular trek is split into two sections. Firstly trekking from Nepal and through the Himalaya into Tibet, as well as a circuit trek around Kailas that follows the Kora route clockwise. Certainly devoted pilgrims and perhaps other trekkers will possibly be trekking the Kora around Kailas at the same time. The Kora itself is no mean feat, the circuit of Kailas is around 50km and involves crossing a 5600m pass. Tibet is a high altitude country and through the limitations of geography other than the final exiting of Tibet, by default your time in Tibet is invariably above 4500m. By beginning in Nepal and trekking across the Himalayas, some of the height gain is spread out over several days and effectively the two fairly non-active days by the holy lake of Manasarovar serve as acclimatisation days too. Indeed this is an ambitious, adventurous itinerary that involves tough hiking continuously for several days at high altitude and requires a good level of fitness and stamina.
Don't forget our trekking holidays are tailor-made and whilst this itinerary includes acclimatisation days, a contingency day and a controlled rate of ascent on the Nepal section, you can always have more rest, acclimatisation and even contingency days added. The itinerary is merely a suggested itinerary and is not entirely 'set in stone'. We recommend Spring/Autumn are the most suitable times to undertakle this trek. Sleeping bags (4 season) will be required for nights spent camping and in guest houses. We can arrange sleeping bag rental if required.

IMPORTANT - As well as a Nepal Visa (multiple entry) a China Visa and Tibet entry permits are required. You would obtain your own Nepal Visa as normal -see link below at foot of page- but we must usually arrange the China Visa and Tibet entry permits for your entire private party collectively and will invoice you separately for these. Do not obtain China Visas yourselves as individuals. The 'rules' and costs for this have a nasty habit of changing and at very short notice too and even can depend on your nationality. Please contact us for the latest on the Tibet (China) requirements and costs.
