For anyone who is a dedicated mountain biker, then surely the thrill and pleasure of riding the trails beneath the highest mountains on the planet is a 'must do'. In fact Himalayan Mountain Biking is now very popular with some of the Nepalese people too. Some of our local riders are now ranked amongst the best in the world. That's hardly surprising really considering their 'training areas'. As part of a tailor-made holiday in Nepal we can include some of the best day rides in the Kathmandu Valley area to a full on assault of the gruelling Annapurna Circuit. As far as the trails of the Kathmandu Valley go there's a right old mix of what we'd describe as classic cross country style riding to be had. Singletrack trails through forests and hills, trails linking villages that present a variety of interesting possibilities, interspersed with jeep tracks and the odd bit of paved road. Where practical we provide vehicle support and also to carry your main baggage too. You'll have a dedicated mountain biking guide who knows how to ride rough and may even be able to teach you a trick or two. We include mountain bike rental as standard (front sus, hardtails) and helmets meaning you don't have to bring your own bike. Of course, if you prefer, you can bring your shiny steed instead. Just let us know and we'll advise you on the 'pro's and con's' of this. The village trails in Nepal make for ideal singletrack rides, dirt roads for those lung-busting climbs and of course those blistering, big descents too. You'll find there's mountain biking and some more straightforward backroads cycling within some of our Nepal Adventure Holidays too.
But if it's entirely 'fat tyre fun' you're after the Himalayan trails await to test you. Let's talk about biking 'possibilities' whether it's a few tasty day rides to a full on ride across the high Tibetan Plateau from Lhasa to Kathmandu.
9 days - Moderate - Max alt.3900m
Downhill mountain biking Himalayan style through the world's deepest valley from the high Tibetan plateau to the sub-tropical lower reaches of the Kali Gandaki Valley, between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. Varied and dramatic.
15 days - Very Challenging - Max alt.5416m
Across the mighty Throung La, this is an epic mountain bike adventure challenge that will test even the most experienced mountain bikers. At times brutal, but very self-satisfying for those who relish the ultimate Himalayan biking challenge.
