Trip Overview

A real Nepal multi-activity adventure tour.

Combining, a short but reasonably challenging Himalayan trek, a couple of days rafting on the Seti River, and a spot of wildlife watching in the jungles of Chitwan, you'll certainly explore Nepal and appreciate its diversity. The trekking is well away from the main trails, yet includes two simply stunning hilltop camp sites at relatively modest altitudes that afford stupendous views of the entire Annapurna Massif, Fishtail, Manaslu, and distant Dhaulagiri. Trek through unspoilt, traditional villages and meet the locals along the way. Taking to the waters of the Seti River, your journey continues through a sub-tropical valley that can only be experienced by rafting, with over night camps on the river banks. Then to Nepal's most famous National Park, Chitwan. Here you'll enjoy a day in the jungle on safari in search of the Bengal Tiger, the One Horned Rhino, and more of the animal kingdom wonders to be found here, including a dazzling array of colourful birds. An enriching and real Nepal travel experience.

Sleeping bags (4-season) will be required for the nights spent camping. We can arrange sleeping bag rentals if required.

    Trek to Starlight (Tara Top)

With Himalayan mountain views to behold, you now head westward, initially contouring the hillside, and walk through forests, passing the occasional tiny settlement along the way. A right turn leads onto a trail that ascends a wooded ridge all the way up to the spectacularly located Tara Top Camp (2900m). It's a long, steep climb up, but with views of almost all of the Annapurna Massif, Macchapuchare, Lamjung, and Manaslu, the reward for effort is more than duly compensated. Yes, the camp is literally on the hilltop itself, and as well as uninterrupted views of Himalayan giants, watching the sun go down over essentially most of central Nepal and down towards the Terai is something once seen, never forgotten. Walking time is approx. 4-5 hours, with around 1000m of ascent.

Initially, after dropping down, the trail contours the hillside at around 2500m before dropping down sharply through forests of rhododendron. Look up, and you may find wild orchids clinging to the branches. Clearing the forest, you reach the tiny village of Ghalegaon (1620 m), perched above the Sardi Khola Valley  Walking time: approx. 4 hours with around 1200 m of descent.

    DAY
    7

    Transfer to the Seti River

For the next two days, you'll be paddling a distance of around 63km on the Seti River and camping wild on the shores of the river. As well as plenty of paddling on calmer waters, there are sections of rapids (grade 3) to negotiate along the way. It's around two and a half hours to the put in point at Damauli. You'll receive a safety briefing and be provided with a wetsuit, rafting helmet, and lifejacket. What you need for the day's rafting will go into dry bags. Onto the river, and most of today's paddling of around 3 hours is on flat water, but it is very, very beautiful as you follow the river flanked by steep-sided jungle, a sight that can only be seen by raft. There is some whitewater towards the end that will give you a chance to practise for what lies ahead. You're now below 1000m, so the climate is very sub-tropical.

Accommodation: Wild Seti River Camp 1
