Trip Overview

A luxury trek in the Modi Khola Valley beneath Annapurna.

Enjoy a Annapurna luxury trek. The Annapurna region of Nepal is simply beautiful and nowhere more so than as you follow a delightful horseshoe mini-trek through the Modi Khola Valley, beneath the towering giants of Macchapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. Of course the existence of some very comfortable, strategically located  'luxury' lodges providing proper beds and private facilities each evening is a definite plus. These are the best trekking lodges in the Annapurnas. And, with all being at relatively modest altitudes it's nice to finish each day sitting outside in their pleasing gardens in the evening warmth, enjoying the magnificent views and reflecting back on the days walks. This mini-trek has two short, rather easy days of walking and two lengthier moderate walks. But, those with a reasonable level of fitness will find that the two longer days are merely a matter of a few hours walking before and after lunch, so an unhurried pace can be readily adopted to enjoy encounters along the way. This particular trek can be undertaken the opposite way around if preferred. Either way you'll walk along one side of the Modi Khola and then cross to the other side. Needless to say with this being one of the easiest treks in Nepal and a low altitude Himalayan trek too, these upmarket trekking lodges get booked out regularly. This trek can also be combined with The Mustang Magic Luxury Trek and the Everest Luxury Trek too.

    DAY
    2

Fly to Pokhara & very short trek to Birethanti

A private transfer to the airport for the 25min flight to sub-tropical Pokhara. A private transfer of around 90 minutes then takes you out of Pokhara and to the start of your horseshoe circuit trek of the delightful Modi Khola Valley at Nayapul. Today is rather easy and a nice way to 'warm up' as you follow the ridge line through forest to then begin to descend down towards the Modi Khola River. Reaching the lodge (1060m) you can explore the nearby village of Birethanti in the afternoon before perhaps enjoying a sundowner in the gardens and enjoy the sub-tropical climate. Walking time approx. less than 2 hrs with around 350m descent. One option is to spend a night in Pokhara before you head off on trek too, if you prefer and then start your trek the following day. Please also see IMPORTANT NOTE on Day 3.

    Accommodation: Comfort Lodge, Birethanti
    Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    DAY
    3

    Trek to Ghandruk

A longer walk today, but it can still be enjoyed at an unhurried pace. A well established trail follows the course of the Modi Khola upstream and begins to rise away up the hill side passing tiny villages and terraced paddy fields along the way. The gradient increases as you then ascend via a stone-stepped trail that rises continually upwards and to Ghandruk, the principal settlement of the Annapurna region. For sure, as you climb upwards take rests along the way and enjoy the views across the valley to Macchapuchare (Fishtail). Reaching the odge at Ghandruk (1940m) you can now relax and soak up the views of snow covered peaks. Walking time approx. 5-6hrs with around 890m ascent.

IMPORTANT NOTE - The trekking route to Ghandruk (via Birethanti) from the main road at Nayapul is now entirely on a recently constructed jeep road. Whilst this road (of sorts) does not experience much in the way of vehicular activity it is possible that whilst the scenery remains the same, some people may not wish to/enjoy walking on the jeep road. Consequently if you prefer you can be driven directly from Pokhara to Ghandruk by private 4WD vehicle and would thus no longer spend a night in Birethanti, reducing the trip duration by one day.

    Accommodation:  Comfort Lodge, Ghandruk
    Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Trek to Majhgaun

A case of down, across and up today as you firstly descend to the Modi Khola River on a stone-stepped trail and cross the river by way of a small bridge. At first it's a relatively steep, but not particularly sustained climb up to Landruk. But, there's no reason to rush. There are tiny homesteads and villages along the way to enjoy too as you rise and look across to the opposite side of the valley from whence you came as the lofty peaks of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli come into view. Reaching Landruk the gradient begins to decrease as you contour the hillside on a trail that is now more undulant in nature as you continue to Mahjgaun (1450m). Walking time approx. 5hrs with around 700m descent and 500m ascent.

    Accommodation: Comfort Lodge, Mahjgaun

    Trek to Dhampus

Beautiful walking today as the trail rises up through dense forests of rhododendron, with occasional breaks to afford breathtaking views across to the Annapurna's. You'll walk by several small villages and cross over the Deorali Pass and then begin a steady descent to Dhampus (1500m). Walking time approx 4hrs, with around 600m ascent and 500m descent. Enjoy a refreshing Chai here and with great Himalayan views.
